SKILLS COMPETITION AND OPENING CEREMONIES:
Opening Ceremonies will take place on Friday February 12th, 2010 at 6 pm at the Seymour/Hannah Complex. All teams are welcome and we would ask that all players wear their home jerseys. With this being the 10th anniversary of this tournament, we hope that the opening ceremonies will be attended by as many teams as possible.
In conjunction with the opening ceremonies, there will be a team skills competition immediately following the singing of O Canada. We ask that each team from the Novice, Minor Atom and Atom division provide the tournament with the name of 6 skaters and 1 goalie to participate in the competition. Winners are awarded, per division, not per skill. It is an accumulated score from your “team” and the winning teams will receive a prize that benefits your entire hockey team and coaching staff.
As a minor hockey coach myself, I can appreciate the difficulty in choosing only 7 players from your team to participate. However, due to time constraints, ice and the size of our tournament, it is not possible to have every player participate. This is why we have decided to reward the entire winning team, not just the players that are participating. It is therefore in everyone’s best interest to choose the appropriate players for this competition.
For the competition you will need the following:
1. 3 skaters to participate in a 3 person relay around the ice. This is a timed event. Team with the best time is awarded the points.
2. 2 player puck control with passing. This is also a timed event.
3. 1 player for shooting. Accuracy will be assessed using a point system.
4. 1 goalie to receive shots. Points awarded on saves with control and rebound.
Points will be totaled at the end of the event and the team with the most points will receive the winning prize.
We would ask that you please submit the names of your 6 skaters, 1 goalie and 1 alternate no later than February 1st, 2010 to chair@johnmacdonaldtournament.com . Please note that players need to be different for each event. Please make sure your team name and division is clearly indicated in the subject portion of the email. No names will be accepted passed this date and teams that have not submitted names will not be able to participate. Complete competition rules and drills will be provided to you at registration.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email at chair@johnmacdonaldtournament.com or by phone at 905-228-1593.
Thank you for choosing the John MacDonald Memorial MD Tournament. We hope your experience is a memorable one.
